Vietnam's healthcare sector is rapidly embracing digital transformation, with Healthcare Information Exchange (HIE) technologies emerging as a critical foundation for connected care. As hospitals, clinics and laboratories move towards interoperable digital systems, investment in secure health data exchange is expected to accelerate over the coming decade.

According to IMARC Group, Vietnam's healthcare interoperability solutions market—which includes Healthcare Information Exchange (HIE) platforms, electronic health record integration, laboratory interoperability and clinical data exchange solutions—was valued at US$19.6 million in 2025 and is projected to reach US$50.5 million by 2034.

Healthcare Information Exchange enables the secure sharing of patient information between hospitals, clinics, laboratories, pharmacies and public health agencies, ensuring clinicians have access to complete and accurate medical records regardless of where care is delivered. As healthcare becomes increasingly digital, HIE is playing an essential role in improving care coordination, reducing duplication of tests and supporting more informed clinical decision-making.

Several factors are driving market growth across Vietnam:

  • Government-led healthcare digital transformation programmes.
  • Nationwide implementation of electronic medical records (EMRs).
  • Expansion of telemedicine and remote healthcare services.
  • Growing adoption of cloud-based healthcare platforms.
  • Increasing demand for integrated patient records across hospitals and healthcare networks.
  • Greater investment in cybersecurity, healthcare data governance and AI-enabled clinical decision support systems.

Vietnam's wider digital health ecosystem is also expanding rapidly. IMARC estimates the country's healthcare IT market reached US$1.6 billion in 2025 and is forecast to grow to US$4.7 billion by 2034, while the eHealth market is expected to increase from US$651.3 million to US$2.24 billion over the same period. This broader digitalisation is creating strong demand for interoperable platforms capable of securely connecting healthcare providers and patient information nationwide.

Cloud deployment is becoming the preferred model for interoperability solutions, accounting for nearly 60% of the Vietnamese market in 2025, as healthcare organisations seek scalable, cost-effective platforms that support real-time access to patient data. Healthcare providers—including hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres—represent the largest end-user segment, accounting for 72% of market demand.

Healthcare providers are also increasingly adopting internationally recognised interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR, enabling seamless exchange of laboratory results, medical imaging, electronic prescriptions and patient records across multiple healthcare systems. These standards are expected to become increasingly important as Vietnam advances its national digital health strategy.

Leading global technology providers including Oracle Health, InterSystems, Epic Systems, Microsoft, Philips, Orion Health, MEDITECH, GE HealthCare and Dedalus continue to expand their interoperability capabilities, supporting healthcare organisations in delivering more connected, data-driven and patient-centred care. Recent initiatives, including the rollout of Orion Health's patient portal with Vietnamese healthcare partners, highlight the country's commitment to accelerating healthcare digitalisation.

As Vietnam continues to modernise its healthcare infrastructure, Healthcare Information Exchange will become an increasingly important enabler of integrated care, supporting everything from electronic medical records and telemedicine to artificial intelligence, population health management and precision medicine. For providers of healthcare IT, interoperability platforms, cloud services and digital health technologies, Vietnam represents one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing digital healthcare markets.
