Vietnam's medical device sector is undergoing a significant digital transformation as hospitals, healthcare providers and patients increasingly adopt connected technologies capable of collecting, transmitting and analysing health information in real time.

Analysis of Vietnam's medical-device market indicates that connected medical devices represented approximately US$265 million in market value in 2025 and could approach US$750 million by 2031, as their share of the country's medical-device market rises from around 15% to 26%.

This implies growth of approximately 19% annually, significantly faster than Vietnam's overall medical-device market.

Internet of Things medical devices—often described as the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT)—combine medical technology with sensors, software and connectivity, allowing devices to communicate with healthcare professionals, hospital systems, smartphones and cloud-based healthcare platforms.

The market encompasses technologies including:

  • Connected patient monitors and vital-sign systems
  • Smart blood glucose monitors
  • Connected blood-pressure monitors
  • Wearable medical devices
  • Connected cardiac and ECG monitors
  • Pulse oximeters
  • Smart insulin pumps
  • Connected implantable devices
  • Remote patient monitoring technologies
  • Connected imaging equipment
  • Hospital asset and equipment monitoring
  • Cloud-connected diagnostic devices

Remote patient monitoring drives adoption

One of the most important applications is remote patient monitoring (RPM).

Connected medical devices allow healthcare professionals to monitor blood pressure, glucose levels, oxygen saturation, heart rate and other clinical parameters while patients remain at home. Data can be transmitted automatically to healthcare platforms, allowing clinicians to identify changes in a patient's condition and intervene when necessary.

This is particularly relevant to Vietnam as the country addresses an increasing burden from chronic diseases alongside an ageing population. The dedicated Vietnam IoT Medical Devices study identifies digital transformation, healthcare infrastructure investment, population ageing and chronic disease as important drivers of market development.

Connected devices gain share of Vietnam's medical-device market

Vietnam's wider medical-device industry provides strong evidence of the transition towards connected technology.

Ken Research estimates the country's Medical Devices Market at US$1.77 billion in 2025, forecasting it to reach US$2.89 billion by 2031. More significantly, connected devices are projected to increase from 15% of market value in 2025 to 26% by 2031.

The research identifies patient monitoring as a leading segment and expects future value to shift towards connected monitoring, advanced diagnostics, software-enabled systems and service-supported equipment.

Vietnam's Smart Medical Devices Market provides another indication of the opportunity. IMARC Group values this market at US$242.97 million in 2025, forecasting it to reach US$407.02 million by 2034. Demand is being supported by remote healthcare, preventive health monitoring, digital infrastructure and adoption of smart diagnostic technologies.

AI transforms connected medical devices

Artificial intelligence is adding another dimension to IoMT.

Rather than simply transmitting data, connected medical devices can increasingly use AI algorithms to analyse information and identify potentially significant changes in a patient's condition.

A connected cardiac monitor, for example, can continuously collect ECG information while algorithms screen the data for abnormal rhythms. Similarly, connected glucose monitoring can help identify trends and potentially support more personalised diabetes management.

MarketsandMarkets identifies the integration of advanced sensors and AI technologies as one of the principal drivers of the global IoT medical-device market.

From hospitals to the home

Connected technology is also changing where healthcare can be delivered.

Traditionally, sophisticated monitoring required patients to remain in hospitals. IoMT enables elements of that monitoring to move into outpatient and home environments.

This has implications for chronic disease management, post-operative care, elderly care and potentially virtual wards, where patients can be monitored remotely while remaining outside traditional hospital settings.

Vietnam's wider digital-health market is already moving in this direction. Ken Research values the country's Digital Health Market at US$2.4 billion in 2025 and forecasts growth to US$5.5 billion by 2031, encompassing remote monitoring, teleconsultation, hospital software, mobile health, analytics and connected-care services.

Global IoT medical-device market to exceed US$150 billion

International growth demonstrates the scale of the technology shift.

MarketsandMarkets estimates that the global IoT Medical Devices Market will grow from US$65.08 billion in 2025 to US$154.74 billion by 2030, representing an 18.9% CAGR. Patient monitoring is forecast to be one of the fastest-growing product areas, while wearable devices are expected to record particularly strong expansion.

Using the broader Internet of Medical Things definition, Grand View Research forecasts the global market will reach US$658.6 billion by 2030, with an 18.2% CAGR. The difference in headline value illustrates how market definitions vary significantly depending on whether software, infrastructure and services are included alongside devices.

5G and cloud infrastructure support the next generation of IoMT

Vietnam's rapidly developing connectivity infrastructure should provide another catalyst.

The country's overall IoT market is expanding as 5G, cloud infrastructure and connected endpoints become more widely available. Ken Research forecasts Vietnam's overall IoT market to grow at 14.9% annually, with healthcare identified as one of the scalable application areas.

Faster connectivity allows medical devices to transmit larger volumes of data with lower latency, supporting applications ranging from continuous monitoring to connected imaging and AI-assisted diagnostics.

Cybersecurity becomes increasingly important

As medical devices become connected, however, cybersecurity becomes critical.

IoMT systems can contain highly sensitive patient information and may connect directly with hospital networks. Healthcare providers therefore need robust security covering device authentication, encryption, access controls, network security, software updates and patient-data protection.

For technology suppliers, this means the commercial opportunity extends well beyond hardware.

The emerging IoMT ecosystem encompasses medical devices, sensors, connectivity, cloud infrastructure, AI, cybersecurity, data analytics, remote-monitoring platforms and systems integration.

Vietnam therefore represents a particularly attractive emerging market for connected healthcare. As hospitals modernise and care increasingly extends beyond traditional clinical settings, IoT medical devices are likely to become an important component of the country's healthcare infrastructure.

With connected devices potentially increasing from approximately 15% of Vietnam's medical-device market in 2025 to 26% by 2031, the opportunity for manufacturers, digital-health companies, software providers and healthcare technology businesses is set to expand significantly.
