Vietnam's ultrasound market is expanding as hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres invest in more advanced, portable and increasingly AI-enabled medical imaging technologies.

According to IMARC Group, the Vietnam Ultrasound Devices Market reached US$42.67 million in 2025 and is projected to grow to US$69.84 million by 2034.

Growth is being supported by healthcare modernisation, increasing access to medical services and growing demand for earlier and more accurate diagnosis. Portable and point-of-care ultrasound systems are also helping expand the technology beyond traditional radiology departments into emergency medicine, critical care and community healthcare.

Ultrasound is one of healthcare's most widely used diagnostic imaging technologies. Unlike X-ray and CT imaging, it does not use ionising radiation, allowing clinicians to generate real-time images of organs, tissues and blood flow through high-frequency sound waves.

The market encompasses a growing range of technologies and applications, including:

  • 2D, 3D and 4D ultrasound
  • Doppler ultrasound
  • Portable and handheld ultrasound
  • Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS)
  • Obstetrics and gynaecology
  • Cardiology and vascular imaging
  • Radiology and general imaging
  • Urology
  • Emergency and critical care
  • Therapeutic ultrasound

Portable ultrasound is becoming particularly important. Compact and handheld devices allow clinicians to perform imaging at the patient's bedside, in emergency departments, outpatient clinics and potentially in locations where access to conventional diagnostic imaging is limited. Vietnam-specific market research identifies the increasing adoption of portable systems as an important contributor to market development.

Another major development is the integration of artificial intelligence into ultrasound imaging.

AI-enabled systems can assist with image acquisition, automate measurements, improve image quality and provide clinical decision support. Machine-learning algorithms can also help clinicians identify anatomical structures and standardise examinations, potentially reducing dependence on highly experienced operators while improving workflow efficiency. IMARC identifies AI integration and smart diagnostic technologies as a significant trend in Vietnam's ultrasound market.

Cardiovascular imaging represents another important area of opportunity. Doppler and echocardiographic ultrasound allow clinicians to examine the heart and blood vessels in real time, supporting the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease without exposing patients to radiation.

Ultrasound also remains fundamental to obstetrics and women's health, providing real-time fetal imaging and supporting pregnancy monitoring. Continued investment in maternal healthcare and expansion of private hospitals and diagnostic services should therefore contribute to sustained equipment demand.

Vietnam's broader diagnostic imaging market is also expanding. A July 2026 Ken Research study forecasts the country's diagnostic imaging devices market — encompassing ultrasound alongside X-ray, CT, MRI and other systems — to reach US$350 million by 2031, with approximately 8.9% annual growth during 2026–2031.

Importantly for international manufacturers, Vietnam remains highly dependent on imported medical technology. Ken Research estimates 91.5% import dependence for diagnostic imaging devices in 2025, while TechSci cites International Trade Administration data indicating that around 90% of Vietnam's medical equipment was imported in 2024.

This creates opportunities not only for ultrasound manufacturers but also for transducer and probe suppliers, imaging software companies, AI developers, distributors, maintenance providers and training organisations.

As Vietnam continues to modernise its healthcare infrastructure, ultrasound is also evolving from a conventional hospital imaging modality into a more accessible digital diagnostic platform. Smaller devices, improved image quality, AI-assisted interpretation and point-of-care applications are widening the range of settings in which ultrasound can be deployed.

For medical imaging companies and healthcare technology providers, Vietnam therefore represents a growing market where portable imaging, AI-enabled ultrasound and point-of-care diagnostics are likely to be particularly important areas of future opportunity.
